LLC “LuhanskVoda”

LLC “LuhanskVoda” is changing the  «pumping stations and treatment facilities for the use of sodium hypochlorite. Activities commenced in the current year, and to date four pumping stations (for example, the Kirov hydrant assembly) and two treatment facilities in the Luhansk region has already  been transferred to sodium hypochlorite.  Amongst sewage treatment plants operating in the city of Lugansk, sodium hypochlorite is already being used at  Yubileyninski and Vergunski. Acency’s press service informed "Irta-FAX» on this issue. There are several advantages of sodium hypochlorite to liquid chlorine. The introduction of this technology can improve production safety by the elimination storage of hazardous and toxic chlorine (while maintaining a high level of disinfection of water and wastewater). As a result Reagent stations associated with the measures of protection in case of leakage of liquid chlorine will be reduced - eliminating the need for specialized highly secure containers, alarm systems, gas masks and chemicals to neutralize liquid chlorine. Therefore, to ensure the safety of people, “LuhanskVoda” will continue the liquid chlorine transition program. Public-private partnership plays a very important role in this process. Thanks to the state program "Drinkable Water of Ukraine" all objects of "LuhanskVoda” will terminate the usage of liquid chlorine in 2011-2012. Pumping station number 1, 3 and 4 of Luhansk will convert to the usage of sodium hypochlorite. The largest wastewater treatments of the city in the Zhovtnevi region will be transferred to the hypochlorite. Until the end of 2011, according to Decree of the Cabinet of Ukraine from 22.06.2011g. # 782 in five regional centers of Luhansk the treatment facilities will  be reconstructed. Those are: Starobelsk, Svatovo, Novopskov, Novoaydar, Belokurakino. Reconstruction also includes replacing the liquid chlorine to the safer sodium hypochlorite.  For reference, water and sanitation facilities have always been under the special supervision of the Ministry for Emergency Situations (MES), because they all use a highly toxic substance as liquid chlorine. In "LuhanskVoda" they decided that you should gradually get rid of such a dangerous substance as liquid chlorine, but getting rid of so it in such a way that the safety of tap water (decontamination) does not lower. That is why in 2011 the company began implementing a series of programs on the transition from liquid chlorine to a safer for human health and sodium hypochlorite.
